As many are aware, the province of BC has been full of smoke and fires these last two weeks, creating a busy and stressful time for all. In the midst of the current chaos, I was able to take a moment and give back to a program I love dearly - 4-H. It was a great way to take a step back from the reality of our province's current state of emergency, and allow my brain to work in a creative manner. On July 16th, I was invited to present to the Pritchard 4-H Club's photography members. A group of 7 eager and creative young minds ready to get to photographing. We started the morning presentation off with a short and interactive discussion on photography 101, then headed outside to explore. We lucked out having access to a gorgeous farm yard, with numerous pieces of equipment, a horse and a windy back road to use as backdrops and subjects for our images. The members headed out with their cameras in tow, snapping pictures and using the tools they'd learned during the discussion. I took turns going between the 4-H members, whilst they snapped their little hearts out, and assisted them with any questions they had. Once everyone had taken as many pictures as they felt they could, we gathered together to go over each members images, allowing the members to put to use the information they'd absorbed earlier. Each image was carefully and thoughtfully critiqued by their peers and I was happy to see how much information everyone took away, as I was told I was speaking German for most of the presentation! ;) 4-H is a great organization to get involved with, and I look forward to future opportunities working with other 4-H clubs. If you're a 4-H leader and looking for someone to present to your members, please don't hesitate to contact me, as I'd love to assist your members with their photography!
